Expat IPA
It is a thing of beauty indeed. About 6 or 7 SRM, nice and clear, and about enough hops to, as Sam from DFH says “rip the enamel off your teeth.” To be honest maybe a bit hoppy for me right now but I am sure it will even out in aging (not matter how little aging it is). If you are in the neighborhood be sure to knock on my door and have a glass or growler with you….I will be happy to fill it!
A bit light on the posts lately
Sorry we have been a bit light on the posts lately folks. I have recently moved into a new place. Happy to say BREWING IS TOTALLY LEGAL AND ACCEPTED HERE!!! I cannot tell you how happy I am. We even have a location for the kegerator. Gordon and I brewed what we are calling Expat IPA the other day. It all went smoothly and I think it is going to be one of our best brews yet. It is a highly hopped recipe with Maris Otter (British) malt and Magnum, Williamette, and Crystal (American) hops…hence it’s name. I cannot wait to drink it fresh. That is about all for now. Will post soon when we are drinking the IPA.
Soon to be beer
Fu2, Saison Noire, Pumpkin Saison, Pumpkin Saison with Cocoa Nibs.
Jerkwater Does Denver
This Thursday the Jerkwater team is headed out to Denver for the yearly GABF. I am sorry to say that none of our beers will be on display but give it time! This is our first trip out and we are all very excited to get to sample some great beers. We are also hoping to hit up some of the breweries and prewpubs in the area. I can promise the “Last Drink” bar will be blazing fast all weekend. My hope is that we will have some thoughts and pictures to post as the weekend rolls on. Keep your eye on the blog this weekend and wish our livers luck!
Belgian Beer Fest – Top Picks
In the wake of Beer News’ picks for Night of the Funk and Belgian Beer Fest Sat Session I will announce my picks to a waiting audience:
Night of the Funk
- Samuel Adams Kosmic Mother Funk (Bretty Brown; 10.0%) – Nice to see Sam open up some of these barrels that we see at the brewery.
- NBB Love (Single bbl, unblended La Folie, sour, wood-aged beer; 7.0%) – La Folie is so delicious I cannot wait to see what am unblended sample is like. I can only wish that it was PH1 from New Beligium, that barrel has a bit of a reputation.
- CBC Delilah (Blend of bbl-aged Belgian strong golden ale with Brett. Anomolous and Bruxellensis, and an herbed Belgian blonde gruit beer; 7.0%) – I love CBC’s brews and Will really is one of the most innovation brewers out there.
- De Struise Earthmonk Sour Ale – I missed this at Ebenezer’s Belgian Beer Fest, that will not happen again.
- Lost Abbey Cable Car 08 (Sour Ale, blended once a year to celebrate the Toronado. Only 50 cases were produced this year; 7.0%) – I have heard about this beer for years. I cannot wait to try this extremely difficult beer to get.
A Pretty Tasty Bud
As a extremely short review: This beer is a nice amber color w/ red highlights. It is a pretty basic ale with a decent hop character. I would never be able to peg this as a AB product. I will have another very soon and drop some more knowledge on y’all.
The first day of the rest of my brewing life…
Thank god for kegs!
The Ryans Storm NYC
Jess and I will be in NYC for the next few days and will hopefully be hitting up a number of the drinking establishments down there.
First stop is going to be Heartland in Times Square for some lunch and brews after we get off the bus that we’ve been on since 7:30 am.
Later tonight, we plan to meet up with Gary Wong so he can show us how it’s done in Gotham.
Updates on the beer stops as they occur.

American Craft Beer Fest
It is the day after the ACBF. I have to say it turned out to be a successful fest with a lot of good beers to try. I think that I enjoy the events at the Cyclorama a bit better but this was a good event for creating more Beer Advocates. Dori came to this one also so we are hoping to expand her beer tastes a bit. I think she found a few new beers she liked. I have to say I think my Best In Show was the Ithaca Brute. I cannot wait to be able to purchase bottles of this beer. Here is my list of beers I tried:

Long time…
… no post. Well let’s just hope that is an odd quiet spot. I have been in Europe for the last 2.5 weeks so my beer drink was switched with wine drinking. We were in Spain and Portugal and I can tell you that the beer selection in those countries is a bit difficult. Spain had a couple of nice Cervecerías including one in Madrid and one in Sevilla. I enjoyed a couple Belgian beers there that I cannot get in the states, namely Mort Subite, Lindemans Faro, and Achel Brune (which I can get here but it is difficult). All those beers were obviously good but the local beers I got to try were more of a crap shoot.
